star slinger

since i recommended this to mercie in my comment earlier, on her recommendation i'll write up a post about it.

thanks to the magic of the internets i've come across several remixes by star slinger, most notably for an otherwise unremarkably folksy/almost 60s-ish sounding song "beeswax" by nazcarnation. (youtube link here) the up-pitched and autotuned vocals mixed into echoes mix with a heartbeat bass beat to paint an aural beauty, perfectly framing the fall evenings during which i found myself first listening.

it's sort of odd how much i've come to enjoy the rest of his (albeit brief) collection; his music draws upon obvious hip hop beat influences while i've never considered myself a fan of most hip hop. however, the beats he chooses are, for lack of a better word, funky, and work very well with the direction he chooses to steer his songs, especially in the context of the remixes where the base is often an indie artist like deerhunter. 

overall, it's quite honestly not the most original work, artists like daft punk or basement jaxx or any number of predominantly late 90s/early 00s artists have covered similar ground before and since, but i am certainly a sucker for a good remix and on the strength of beeswax alone i have definitely become a fan.
